For truly short run applications, the fact is that automatic viscosity control systems are simply not practical. For applications such as these, the Norcross Shell Cup is the best solution.

In-line Viscosity Sensors
For presses with auto wash systems (and even some without), the in-line viscometer can be the best choice. The Norcross M50 mounts directly in-line (not in a bypass) and uses the Norcross Piston-Time-Of-Fall principle.

Tank Viscosity Sensors
If you don't use doctor blade chambers or auto washing systems, and you want to keep it simple-whether you have a 5 gallon ink pail or a 500 gallon supply tank-Norcross has a tank mount viscometer that's right for you.

FACT: Norcross Viscometers: on the job for 40 years, 24/7
That's right, there are Norcross viscometers that have been on the job for 40 years or more-the result of a simple, sensitive, reliable, rugged design. They are just as precise today as the day they were installed.
FACT: The MP2000 Controller is powerful and versatile.
The MP2000 controller is an easy to use, versatile, and rugged single loop controller. It can be used on solvent or water based applications, with or without pH control. The MP2000 comes configured for computer interfacing to a Norcross GUI or one of your own.

FACT: Get displays in standards that you want.
If you want your viscosity measurements in a standard you know-for example, Zahn Cup seconds-then Norcross has the answer. You don't have to interpret percentages or other non-industry standard measurements.

FACT: Norcross has more systems and more experience.
Don't let anyone tell you they have "more systems" or "more of the top printers." Fact is, Norcross invented the first practical process viscometer, and for over 55 years has perfected viscosity measurement and control solutions for applications in the printing, paint, epoxy, textile, fuel oil, can coating industries, and many more. It makes sense to bring Norcross experience and expertise to your application.
The Norcross "Piston-Time-Of-Fall" principle: simple, sensitive, reliable, rugged.
FACT: The Norcross "Piston-Time-Of-Fall" principle is superior to other systems.
The falling piston principle of viscosity measurement is behind all Norcross viscometers and is simply the best way to do the job. No other viscometer can duplicate the ability of a Norcross viscometer to measure the changing viscosity of water as its temperature changes. (See Norcross App Note 101).
FACT: Regarding Temperature Compensation . . . Oh, really?”
In the printing field, there are two situations where temperature compensation is offered:
1. When a viscosity sensor needs to compensate for its affect on ink temperature, or when it's affected by ink temperature. Norcross sensors do not affect, nor are they affected by ink temperature!
2. When it is suggested to control “ink concentration.” Temperature compensation will control concentration, but in doing so it forces the viscosity out of bounds. Since both concentration and viscosity impact printing quality, this is not a real solution.

If you have a temperature issue, save yourself the confusion and poor results of so-called “Temperature Compensation” and control the temperature and viscosity independently from one another.

FACT: The MP2000 can be used for either water or solvent control.
Water based products have delayed dilution rates and different wetting characteristics. Norcross controllers can be field adjusted for use with either solvent or water based products. Norcross sensors, unlike some others, can be used interchangeably in these two situations.

FACT: Norcross has the most experience with pH/viscosity control systems.
For 10 years Norcross has been working with pH in water based inks. We pioneered the use of a flat tip sensor and custom calibration aids. The MP2000 pH integrated viscosity/pH controller is ideal for both OEM's and endusers.

FACT: The best cup is the Shell Cup.
When it comes to viscosity cups, the Norcross Shell Cup is best because it is sensitive and features a sharp “cut off.” Shell Cups come from one manufacturer and are the same, unlike other cups.

Viscosity Control Got You Confused?
FACT: One “technology” — just like one “size” — does NOT fit all.
The best solution for your application may be as simple as a Shell Cup viscometer or as involved as a microprocessor based in-line pH/viscosity control system. What matters is not which technology someone is selling, but rather which system is best suited to your application.

FACT: For over 55 years, Norcross has supplied process viscometer technology for all kinds of applications in all kinds of installations all over the world. Norcross invented the first practical process viscometer, and has led with each of the innovations in viscosity control technology.

FACT: When you call Norcross during normal business hours, an experienced technical support engineer is on hand-a real human being, no voice mail!-to respond to your questions.

Real people. Real answers. No hype.
